May…

Wow…it is already May!!!  Time has just flown by like crazy and here I find my myself in the midst of  many projects. I find myself wishing for more hours in the day:)

A lot going on this week here in the Studio.  I have a commissioned piece that is in it’s final stages. Also a book that is almost finished, just a few more illustrations that I wanted to tweak  and it will be done….I also have the Gallery Walk that my art will be in this Friday.  I think I can….. I think I can….I think I can….Choo Choo!!! LOL:)

Also working to get our local art guild hopefully up and running with an actual gallery space so that they can have a permanent interface with the public. I will be working on a proposal for our membership to look over in this month meeting.  It’s going to be great when we get it up and running…not only for our artists but also for the community!!!

Ok well I have to get back into the studio but I wanted to share with you one of my latest little paintings:) She is called “Little Omie with Butterfly”

I was listening in the studio  to some old music that I grew up with hearing my family play, old folk songs and such. There is an old Doc Watson song called “Little Omie Wise” and it’s a tragically sad song but I thought of this Omie and what a beautiful girl she must have been. So i painted and I painted…and when I was done I had this painting. Now I knew the painting was inspired by the music and that it was Omie but decided to ask a few friends what name called to them….and Francesca was one and I thought ok…maybe…but then late last night as I was going over the  a re-shoot  photos for this piece I decided that it must be named “Little Omie with Butterfly”:)

If you happen to be in the area on Friday and would like to see her up close then come on down to the Spring Gallery Walk in old town Manassas bc she is scheduled to be there for her debut.  If not then no worries you can take a look at her online in my Etsy shop and claim her as your very own!!!

~Cheers~

Fresh From the Sewing Room & Studio

This little cutie was a commissioned piece and is getting ready to be shipped off to it’s forever home:)

These pups are always fun to see how they come to life and how each one has it’s own personality!

This lovely little set is a trade:)  Always fun to trade with other artists:)  It’s is on it’s way to the United Kingdom as we speak!!!

This little art doll is of my Norwegian Breaveheart Bears:) So cute and sweet. Made from 100% wool felt. These cuties will add a unique lovable charm to any space. Each and every bear is made by hand and hand sewn by me.

A lot of love and thought is put into the creation of each and every bear. This bear is ready to be shipped to a forever loving home with you:) Now available in my Etsy and iCraft shops!!!

I have been working on building the skin tone of the girls in my current commissioned piece.

It has taken every inch of self discipline to keep from jumping into the beautiful details of the lips and eyes:)

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!!!

~Cheers~

Living in a Snowglobe….

Kinda feeling a bit  like this bird right about now:) LOL…I have a lot of things going on  between a private commission, wrapping up images for the new book “Furbily-Furld”, three paintings for a show in Oklahoma…and then managing my Etsy & iCraft shops….whew!!!!  I am so thankful & blessed for each and every one of these opportunities. It keeps me strong and makes me work that much harder.  I am so blessed to be able to do what I love for a living.

On that note I was just notified that I was selected to present a workshop at the Compassionate Friends  33rd  National Conference, a workshop based on the book I illustrated for “Nikita”s Journey”!!!

TCF National Conferences

“Reflections of Love, Visions of Hope” is the theme of The Compassionate Friends 33rd National Conference which will be held in Arlington Virginia July 2-4, 2010. The event will be held at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City promising a beautiful venue for the 33rd TCF National Conference. Independence Day will not only feature our Walk to Remember, but will include a world-class display of fireworks over the National Mall, visible from Arlington.

What an honor to be able to reach out to others this way and to do it in Mazzy’s memory!!! I just know that Mazzy would be so honored to know her life and spirit is through this book helping others heal. Putting together this workshop is really exciting!!!

I feel like we have been living in a snow globe:)

A look outside my studio window:( The lovely trees are now gone…so sad to see them in all their beautiful glory brought down by the snow and ice.  They shall be greatly missed!!! I just hope new ones get planted soon!!!

We were pleasantly surprised when our dear friends showed up outside and plowed out our driveway and sidewalk with their ATV with a plow attachment:)   So completely thoughtful!!!  We are truly blessed to have such awesome people in our lives:)  We were so snowed in that we could not even make out the front door:)

We got a LOT of snow:)  All I could think was how much Mazzy would have LOVED it!!!!She loved the snow:)

First Painting of the Year…

Here is a my first painting of the year:) It was commissioned by one of my collectors. Knowing that I love to draw/paint the human body and especially women:)

So this will prove to be a fun project!!!

This was the photo for inspiration….

I’m changing the background and painting the girls in my own style:) It should be cool to see how this one turns out!!!

Here are some sneak peaks to it’s progress….

I sketched it out onto a 36″ x 36″ gallery wrapped canvas and painted in a contrasting base for the background.

I then added a light wash of skin toned pigment for the base of the skin.

Next I will be adding in the shadows and shading for depth.

Now I know a lot of you are wondering why I have not shared any of my work from the current book… This time around the Author has requested that I not post any images until the book is published. Except I can show the cover:) BUT I have to paint out all 30 some odd paintings to figure out what will BE the cover….lol…so it might be a while yet…

I have been so swamped since I got back that I have yet to even scan in and photograph what I do have so far…sigh…but that is what I intend to do this week. I know the author is anxious to see the latest:)

We are hoping to have the book finished by the end of March!!!

Ok so with that I will leave you with a quote….

“Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.” Edgar Degas

Winter Wishes….

Jan 11 2010 001

It has been a long cold winter…thinking I could escape it and for the most part I did my going home to New Mexico for the Month of December.  Though it did prove to be cold there more than normal and even snowed twice while I was there!!! A rare occasion indeed:) But I escaped the 25″ of snow reprted by neighbors and friends back home on the east coast! So I am thankful for that and so many other things like our neighbors shoveling out our driveway for us:)

I promise to write much more on my time in NM but for now I am playing catch up on goings on in the studio. Above is a photo of one of the commissioned knit pieces that I am working on for Amy….and I have a beautiful black pair I am working on for another client as well:) Sadly these guys have taken a bit longer as I have been swamped in the studio working on the new book “Furbily-Furld” and various projects. So I have been working on these gems whenever I can fit them in. They are inspired by Bella’s gloves in the movie Twilight:)  So I really want to get these babies finished up in time for them to enjoy them this winter!!!

Now this is one of my latest projects. A while back I was accepted into the “Landfill Artist Reclamation Project” http://www.landfillart.org/index-2.html

They sent me a pre-primed hubcap!!! It took some time for me to bring it to life…a definite challenge to work on a sloped serface and still make the illusion of a flat surface. All in all I am very pleased with the way it came out.  It will be published in a coffee table style book and keep your fingers crossed…maybe even make it into the traveling show!!! Exciting…I really hope it travels so that people all over will get to experience it first hand:)

Jan 8 2010 084Jan 8 2010 072

I hope all of you had a peaceful holiday and I am wishing each and every one of you all the best in the year to come:)  Let’s make the best out of what this year brings us…whatever it may be!!!

~Cheers~
