Gamblers Quail…

“Gamblers Quail” the Original sold at the Cherokee Homecoming Show in Oklahoma. One of my watercolor works inspired by my days growing up in the southwestern desert…I remember hearing the quails all settle in for the evening like clockwork right at dusk, they would make such a fuss and then all of a sudden you would hear the calm quite of the evening taking hold…

PRINTS & CARDS are still available HERE in my SHOP.

First Days of Fall…

First days of fall and I find myself looking back and how swift and yet delicately beautiful summer seemed to be.  This was one of the the most busy of all summers since we started the studio, busy is good and we are thankful for that and so I have been doing my best to keep working steady and strong…putting my heart into everything I create. So we plowed through the summer with hard work and lot’s of coffee :)   Towards the tail end with the  love form our dear family & friends we went on two adventures to the beachy dunes of Cape May and Rehoboth’s coastal buzz. Both places beautifully captivating in their own unique way and totally enhanced by the wonderful people we were with…made both experiences beautiful and enchanting experiences we shall treasure.

Walking on the beach in Cape May

The Lighthouse of Cape May

St. Mary’s By The Sea

A really neat retreat for the nuns that has a history dating back to the turn of the century.

Here are some of the beautiful sunsets we got to enjoy. I plan on taking a few of these photos and working them into watercolor studies.  So many rich tones and beautiful light to play with!!!

A breathtaking view from the deck and it was sooooo neat to see the big ships all lit up at night charting their way there way out to open waters…

On our trip to Rehoboth we were surround by the most beautiful pines!!! It reminded me of an old Lead Belly song…

They had some really cute shops down by the boardwalk. There was a really good little bakery that was totally allergy friendly and had the best sticky rolls ever!!! I will get the name and website to share later :)

The beach was a bit stormy and had some really cool waves…along with those waves came this facinating sea foam!!!

It was really cool kinda like the foam you would get on your latte…but I would not want to eat it!!!! lol … None of us had really ever seen so much of it and it was neat to see it roll and tumble in the wind along the beach.

Kelley found this really cool place that the Rehoboth Art League calls home. It was a truly lovely place that we got to wander the grounds a bit looking at some of the artist creations.

So now I have really gorgeous memories & images to paint from my summer travels.  I can’t wait to get started on these in the studio!!!!

Selina xoxo

Lovely Days…

Hello everyone:) I want to thank everyone for the prayers and well wishes for my mother and her surgery.  Again thank you!!!!!  As for being back in the studio I have been working hard here in the studio and have made good progress on the commissioned piece. I should be finishing this piece  soon!  Here is a sneak peek of it so far….

I still have some work to do on the hair and skin…some finishing work, but am happy with the way this painting is coming to life.

Yes I am now one year older:)  We have been sooo busy that I have been working  just about every day and have not had much free time,  so it was such a lovely surprise when my hubby made me this beautiful red velvet cake:) He also made me one of my favorite meals from scratch, lasagna and it was so very yummy!!!  So was the cake!!!  It all started with the doorbell ringing and when I went to the door all I seen was a bunch of balloons and so I opened the door to find my husband holding a pink box and the balloons!!! So sweet:)

I “shared” the balloons with my Mazzy by placing them next to her photograph. I know how much she loved balloons and therefore I love them too. I miss her so much and just know how much she would have enjoyed the cake that daddy made too.

And just what was in the pink box you ask……

“Light Blue” perfume from Dulce & Gabbana:)  It has such a light and wonderful sent, I just love it!!!

I have also been working on these little lovelies. A small series that I am working on at the moment.

They are acrylic works on paper. I used Goldens black gesso as a base and then went from there. I am anxious to see how this series come to life:)

Ok everyone I am headed back to the studio for now.  Have a wonderful afternoon:)

~Cheers~

May…

Wow…it is already May!!!  Time has just flown by like crazy and here I find my myself in the midst of  many projects. I find myself wishing for more hours in the day:)

A lot going on this week here in the Studio.  I have a commissioned piece that is in it’s final stages. Also a book that is almost finished, just a few more illustrations that I wanted to tweak  and it will be done….I also have the Gallery Walk that my art will be in this Friday.  I think I can….. I think I can….I think I can….Choo Choo!!! LOL:)

Also working to get our local art guild hopefully up and running with an actual gallery space so that they can have a permanent interface with the public. I will be working on a proposal for our membership to look over in this month meeting.  It’s going to be great when we get it up and running…not only for our artists but also for the community!!!

Ok well I have to get back into the studio but I wanted to share with you one of my latest little paintings:) She is called “Little Omie with Butterfly”

I was listening in the studio  to some old music that I grew up with hearing my family play, old folk songs and such. There is an old Doc Watson song called “Little Omie Wise” and it’s a tragically sad song but I thought of this Omie and what a beautiful girl she must have been. So i painted and I painted…and when I was done I had this painting. Now I knew the painting was inspired by the music and that it was Omie but decided to ask a few friends what name called to them….and Francesca was one and I thought ok…maybe…but then late last night as I was going over the  a re-shoot  photos for this piece I decided that it must be named “Little Omie with Butterfly”:)

If you happen to be in the area on Friday and would like to see her up close then come on down to the Spring Gallery Walk in old town Manassas bc she is scheduled to be there for her debut.  If not then no worries you can take a look at her online in my Etsy shop and claim her as your very own!!!

~Cheers~

First Painting of the Year…

Here is a my first painting of the year:) It was commissioned by one of my collectors. Knowing that I love to draw/paint the human body and especially women:)

So this will prove to be a fun project!!!

This was the photo for inspiration….

I’m changing the background and painting the girls in my own style:) It should be cool to see how this one turns out!!!

Here are some sneak peaks to it’s progress….

I sketched it out onto a 36″ x 36″ gallery wrapped canvas and painted in a contrasting base for the background.

I then added a light wash of skin toned pigment for the base of the skin.

Next I will be adding in the shadows and shading for depth.

Now I know a lot of you are wondering why I have not shared any of my work from the current book… This time around the Author has requested that I not post any images until the book is published. Except I can show the cover:) BUT I have to paint out all 30 some odd paintings to figure out what will BE the cover….lol…so it might be a while yet…

I have been so swamped since I got back that I have yet to even scan in and photograph what I do have so far…sigh…but that is what I intend to do this week. I know the author is anxious to see the latest:)

We are hoping to have the book finished by the end of March!!!

Ok so with that I will leave you with a quote….

“Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.” Edgar Degas

~Cheers~

Selina
